In Memory: Stanley John Quinlan (1944-2020)

Stan Quinlan became our treasurer in March 2011. Formerly a teacher in Reading, Massachusetts where he taught middle school mathematics and ancient history, Stan became an active member of the Harmon Museum and Old Orchard Beach Historical Society soon after he and his wife, Ann Marie, retired to Maine and became full-time residents of Old Orchard Beach. Stan was an invaluable and beloved member of our volunteer team, serving as Treasurer and Trustee during his decade of devoted service. Stan will be greatly missed by many and will always be remembered for his dedication, good humor, kindness, and commitment to our community. Read Stan's full obituary.
In Memory: Richard Emery Haskell (1922-2015)
Dick Haskell: Upon retiring from a long and successful career in the insurance industry in Pennsylvania, Dick and his wife, Marilyn, spent six months of the year in Old Orchard Beach in the cottage home originally built by his father. Always an active member of the communities he lived in, Dick brought that same devotion to public service to his work for the Old Orchard Beach Historical Society as a trustee and volunteer. He will be fondly remembered as a good friend to all and a true gentleman. Read Dick's full obituary.
In Memory: Capt. Bernard Emery (1922-2010)

Ben Emery, seen here with his best friend, love of his life, and wife of 67 years, June, was a member of our Historical Society since 1972; his wife shortly thereafter. Ben served as trustee for many years, helping greatly when the Society received its present home in 1974, when the late Warren Harmon willed his house to the Town for the Society’s use. He spent many hours, with the help of other volunteers, getting it ready to serve as a museum.
Born in Old Orchard Beach, he loved his town and its rich history, so much so that for two years he taught its history to local 4th graders. He hoped to pass on his love to them. The Society honored Ben in 1984 as Citizen of the Year. Then, in 1992, the Town dedicated its Annual Town Report to both him and June. In 2008 he was elected to the Old Orchard Beach Alumni Hall of Fame.
The Old Orchard Beach Historical Society owes much to both Ben and June for their many hours of volunteer work.
